FAQ
What is Yoga?
“a Hindu spiritual and ascetic discipline, a part of which, including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, is widely practiced for health and relaxation.” – Oxford Dictionary
A 5000 year old practice that is of India origin and moved to the west in the late 19th and early 20th century. This 5000 year old practice is much more than the Asanas (postures), it is a way of life. Yoga is a physical, mental and spiritual practice. For generations this practice was passed on from the master teacher to the student.
The word Yoga is derived from Sanskrit and means “to unite” or “to yoke” or “to join”
What do I need for a zoom class?
- Set up with clear space around you. Have your mat and whatever props you might want within easy reach.
- Improvise props—low stool, books or cans for a block, beach towels for blankets, belts or ties or silk scarfs for yoga straps, a firm pillow for a bolster. If you don’t have anything but a mat, no worries.
What age do I have to be?
I welcome all ages over 18 with the exception of children’s yoga
What do I need to bring to a class?
Due to Covid you must bring your own props; mat, blocks, straps, bloster, blanket. All you really need is a yoga mat. If you do not have one please let me know and I can provide one
Do I need to lose weight before I can start practicing yoga?
Absolutely not!
Any physical activity will improve your mobility and general health. Doing yoga lowers stress, improves flexibility, and increases muscle tone and strength. Yoga improves memory, helps you sleep better, and boosts your overall mood, so much more then touching your toes! People with larger bodies often have trouble with joint pain and flexibility; yoga can help by improving the body’s alinement to reduce strain on joints. Learning proper posture and body alinements help with overall body and joint pain. With a regular yoga practice flexibility will come!
Most importantly, yoga can help you feel better by both improving your physical fitness and elevating your mood!
What should I wear?
Wear comfortable clothes that will move and stretch with you. Ideally yoga pants and a tank top or t-shirt. Sweater or sweat shirt for the end of class.
